Mr. Joseph Ebow Bannermen, you were born in Winneba, Central Region, Ghana on August 13, 1940. Your academic excellence began when you won the 1st position in the Unilever Scholarship for Secondary Education Nationwide Contest. In 1965 you obtained your first degree at the University of Ghana, Legon. You proceeded to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi where you completed in 1967 with a Master of Science degree in Regional Planning.

You began your illustrious career in 1967 as a Regional Economic Planning Officer at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Central Region.

Your keen desire for knowledge urged you to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Regional Development Planning in 1971 at Settlement Study Centre, Rohovot, Israel.

Mr Ebow Bannerman, at the age of 32, you were the first Managing Director of the Central Regional Development Corporation (Ceredec) in 1973. You also served as the first Chairman of the Board of Twifo Oil Palm Plantations Ltd and the Golden Beach Resorts, Elmina Motel.

You are a member of various Professional Associations including the Federation of African Consultants. Currently, you are the President and a Fellow of the Ghana Institute of Planners. You are also a Fellow of the International Centre for Research and Training in Major Projects Management, Quebec, Canada.

Mr Ebow Bannerman, you have served as a consultant at both national and international levels to numerous development partners and government funded consulting agencies such as the UNDP, DFID, WORLD BANK and CIDA

For several years you were a guest lecturer at the Pan African Institute for Development, Buea Cameroon. You were also an External Examiner for the Master of Science Regional Planning Program at KNUST, Kumasi.

You have two publications and over 40 technical reports to your credit.
As a distinguished citizen of Winneba and a member of the first Council and subsequently Acting Chairman of the Council of the then  University College of Education, Winneba, you played an important role in helping the college  attain full university status.

You were the chairman for the Search Committee for a new Principal of the then University College of Education Winneba, which resulted in the appointment of Prof. Jophus Anamuah– Mensah, who also subsequently became the first Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba.

Mr. Ebow Bannerman, the University of Education, Winneba salutes you for your immeasurable contribution to Education and to the social and moral well-being of the people of this country, Africa and the world in general. The University therefore confers on you the Degree of Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa).
