Unlocking the smallest secrets of the world around us lies at the heart of answering some of the largest questions about animals. Professor Jerome Siau Djangmah, you are recognized throughout the world for your intensive research in the field of Zoology and Marine Biology.

Born in September 27, 1937 at Ayikumah, near Dodowa in the Dangme-West District of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, you had your secondary education at the Presbyterian Secondary School and St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast in 1955 and 1958 respectively. You received a B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Ghana in 1962, and a Ph.D. in 1968 from the University College of North Wales.

As a respected scholar, you began your teaching career as a science teacher at the Achimota School in 1962. You were appointed Assistant Lecturer and subsequently a lecturer in Zoology from 1962 to 1965 at the University of Cape Coast. You were elected Fellow of several academic institutions, and have won many awards. These include Distinguished Friend of the West African Examination Council (2005), Association of Commonwealth Universities Academic Senior Traveling Fellow (1983), Fulbright (USA) Fellow (1980), Senior Commonwealth Universities Academic Scholar (1976 – 1977), and Commonwealth Academic Scholar (1965 – 1968).

Professor Djangmah, in recognition of your numerous contributions to knowledge and higher education, you were promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 1972, Associate Professor in 1979 at the University of Cape Coast. Between 1982 and 1984 you served with distinction as Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University. Your dedication to the University earned you the respect and deep admiration of countless students, faculty, staff and alumni, and you left an indelible legacy of advancement and recognition. You continued your teaching career as Associate Professor of Zoology at the University of Ghana, Legon in 1988.

As a respected mentor, you have served on a number of policy-making boards and committees for several academic institutions including University of Cape Coast, University of Ghana, West African Examination Council and Ministry of Education. You also run consultancy services to many organizations. Your wise counsel and respected guidance are frequently sought, and you willingly and enthusiastically respond to these requests.

Professor Djangmah, you have had extensive experience as university lecturer, researcher, and administrator. You have served in various capacities in several educational and related organizations. You were the Head of the Department of Zoology, University of Cape Coast (1975 – 1982), Pro Vice-Chancellor, University of Cape coast (1982 – 1984), Director-General of Ghana Education Service (1986 – 1988), Head of the Department of Zoology, University of Ghana (1991 – 1996), Council Chairman, University of Education, Winneba (1993 – 2004), Presiding Member, Dangme-West District Assembly (2001 – 2004), and Chairman, West African Examination Council (2006).

You have contributed immensely to research and knowledge creation in education and science. Many of your publications are in Marine Biology of shrimps and clams. You have about 30 consultancy and research reports in educational policy.
